Treatment methods

Tuina

Chinese medicine is a more than 3000 years old medical system based on rich experiential tradition. A whole system of extraordinarily sophisticated methods for curing illnesses and securing health has been developed. One of these methods is acupuncture.

The origin of illnesses and other problems comes from the disharmony between the forces yin and yang, therefore the essential therapeutic principle is to restore the balance between them. According to the theory of the five elements wood, fire, earth, metal and water are the essential and most important substantialities. All of the 12 organs essential to life in the human body, so the 6 yin organs: the heart, the pericardium, the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the spleen, as well as the 6 yang organs: the stomach, the colon, the small intestine, the urinary bladder, the gall bladder and the triple burner, can be characterized with one of the elements.

Qi has a stimulating and warming effect, so it is of yang nature, while blood and body fluids nourish and moisten, so they are of yin nature. The vital force Qi and blood circulate in the meridians and through them the internal organs and the limbs are in mutual connection with each other. There are channels in the body in which the vital Qi is circulating. There are twelve meridians which are linked together and cooperate with each other. They can be influenced in cavities and points on the surface of the body through which they pass by. These numbered points are called acupuncture points.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient therapy that started its journey from China 3000 years ago. It has an effect on the circulation of blood and lymph, it is successfully apllied for treating pain, muscle stiffness and for alleviating respiratory problems. With cupping the energy flow in the body can be influenced. When somebody has this energy flow blocked or it is stagnating, cupping can help to restart it. This therapy can successfully treat fatigue, migraines, but it is also effective when treating asthma and rheumatism.

During cupping thanks to the effect of vacuum the capillaries widen on the treated area of the body, so more fresh blood and oxygen can inflow and they evenly permeate the connective tissue. The used blood and the end products of metabolism and the lymphatic system are pumped into the bloodstream and then flow in the direction of the kidneys. It cleanses away toxic substances form the tissues. Vacuum causes hyperaemia on a given area with its suction effect, the blood supply, the circulation, the metabolism of the skin, of the muscles and of the internal organs connected to the given area improve, as well as the locally appearing hyperaemia activates one or more meridians in the body and so it enhances the flow of bioenergy.

Moxibustion

The meaning of moxa is "burning herb", and this therapy consists of burning dried mugwort. Moxibustion is as old as acupuncture. It activates the cells, relieves muscle fatigue, has an analgesic effect, improves blood circulation. By stimulating certain points on the body with heat, the doctor can regulate the balance between yin and yang, so they heal the body and preserve health. Moxibustion cannot be applied on: pregnant women, pacients with fever and infection, wounded skin, face and other intimate body parts.

Reflexology

There are micro areas on several spots of the body where the whole body in miniature can be found. An area like this is also the foot. Reflexology tries to treat the organism through these micro areas. There are nerve points on the hand and the leg which are in connection with certain organs. These nerve points are the micro areas, namely the reflex zones. With the stimulation and massage of these zones a connection can be established between the given zone and its adherent organ, and so a stimulation effect can be induced. If there is any alteration or illness present in the organism, namely its balance is disrupted, then these micro areas start to signal. In this case toxic substances are deposited in the area proper to the ill organ, The older and more serious the imbalance of the organ is, the bigger and more compact is the subsidence.
